Ambivalent

By Hannah Deaton

I am feeding off of you.

And everything you do

makes its way inside me,

travels to my brain.

It feeds on all its poison,

yet caresses every nerve.

Making me want more,

but resisting all the same.

Clogging my thoughts with yours;

feeling the layers of your insides;

you take a breath, and I exhale it.

You lift your foot up, I step down.

I feel what you feel

I take what you have

but you are an alien.

I know not who you are.

Your thoughts are kept secret

your mood is ever changing

your breath is all your own

and you keep it all from me.

I know you

but I never will.
